Central London — spanning Westminster, Chelsea, Pimlico and Notting Hill — is home to some of the most academically selective schools in the world. Families here are preparing for a wide range of entry points: the 7+ for Thomas's or Westminster Under, the 11+ for St Paul's Girls', Godolphin & Latymer and City of London, and the Pre-Test (Year 6) for Westminster and St Paul's Boys' at 13+.
The Pre-Test, used by Westminster School and St Paul's Boys' among others, is one of the most demanding assessments in the UK independent sector. It is sat in the autumn of Year 6 (age 10–11) and tests Maths, English and reasoning to a level well above the standard 11+ curriculum. Children aiming for these schools often need specialist preparation from Year 4 or earlier.
The tutors below work across SW1, SW3, W1, W2, W8 and W11. Many have directly relevant experience with the Pre-Test and ISEB Common Pre-Test formats.

The Pre-Test (often using the ISEB Common Pre-Test or school-specific papers) is sat in October–November of Year 6 for entry to senior school at 13+. Schools like Westminster and St Paul's Boys' use it to pre-register candidates before Common Entrance in Year 8. It covers Maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning — and the standard is significantly harder than the standard 11+.
How early should we start preparing for Westminster or St Paul's Boys'?
Families targeting Westminster or St Paul's typically begin structured preparation in Year 4, sometimes Year 3. The Pre-Test syllabus demands a depth of reasoning and Maths fluency that takes time to build. Starting early allows preparation to be paced and enjoyable rather than cramming in the months before the October exam.
Is the 7+ in Central London very different from the 11+?
Yes — the 7+ is sat at age 6 (January of Year 2) and tests much more age-appropriate skills: basic number, phonics, reading comprehension and simple creative writing. Thomas's Kensington and Westminster Under School are popular targets. While the content is simpler, the assessment involves interview and observation as well as written tasks, so tutor-coached confidence and verbal fluency matter.
Can tutors come to Chelsea and Notting Hill as well as Westminster?
Yes — our Central London tutors are spread across SW1, SW3, W8, W2 and W11. Most offer both in-home sessions and online tuition. For families in Pimlico, Belgravia or Knightsbridge, we have tutors within a short journey of most postcodes.
